Relic Retriever

A first-person 3D puzzler PC game, a QUT project, where your goal is to collect items and learn about Newstead House. Designed in a team of 4 over a 14 week timeframe and finished on 28/10/2021.

You play as a small spirit tasked with finding the missing relics scattered around the library of Newstead house. You will first need to construct a grappling hook to assist in finding the relics. Once you manage to reach a relic, you will need to solve word puzzles relevant to a piece of history in order to prove you are worthy of grasping it. Spirits can be found within the library who were significant figures regarding the importance of Newstead house and will be thankful for once you return their lost possessions. These historical figures will also tell stories about their day-to-day lives in their time spent at the house, which will provide the player with interesting pieces of history. Our client was Jennifer Garcia, and you can find out more about Newstead House here.

Roles & Responsibilities

Game Designer

Helped build the survival story and gameplay flow/progression.

Gameplay Programmer

Wrote most of the code including player movement & hide mechanics.

AI Designer

Designed the basic AI, going as far as limiting their movement range and dealing damage to player.

Skills Used

Unity/C#

This was my third game built in Unity, so I understood Unity a little better, though AI was still imperfect and I wish I spent more time on it.

Communication

Discussion with my teammates was very easy since we all listened to each others ideas and applied them successfully.

Unity Collaborate

Before I knew about GIT, I used Unity Collaborate for this project, and it let me understand how project files can be exchanged on a basic level.
